Model booking in New York: a model in a charcoal wool coat waits on a SoHo cast iron loading dock between takes while a photographer checks a frame on a camera and a producer holds a call sheet

Modeling agency NYC for brands that book on contract

New York is the busiest model market in the country, and also the most regulated one. ModelContracts lets brands, studios and ad agencies book vetted adult models for shoots in the five boroughs, with the booking agreement, usage rider and model release signed in one panel. We work online and have no office in Manhattan, so every step happens in your account, not over email chains.

What brands book models for in New York

New York work moves fast and covers almost every category. Most bookings fall into a few clear types, and each one needs different terms in the contract.

  • E-commerce and lookbook days in daylight studios in Midtown, Chelsea, Brooklyn and Long Island City, often with many looks per day.
  • Street style and editorial campaigns shot on sidewalks, rooftops and bridges, where location permits and crowd timing matter.
  • Beauty and skincare content with close crops, which needs clear usage terms for paid social and retail screens.
  • Showroom fittings and presentations for designers and wholesale buyers.
  • Activations and pop ups in SoHo and Midtown that need promotional models for a day or a weekend.

Plan around Fashion Week and the retail calendar

New York Fashion Week runs twice a year, in February and September. In the weeks around it, studios, hair and makeup teams and experienced talent book up early, and fittings can run late. If your shoot is not tied to the shows, consider the quieter windows between them. Holiday campaigns are usually shot in late summer, and spring and summer product often shoots in the cold months, so book early when you need outdoor light that looks like a different season. Winter means short days and icy streets, so add buffer time and a warm holding area to the call sheet.

The New York Model Workers Protection Act

New York State passed the Fashion Workers Act, often called the Model Workers Protection Act, which was signed in December 2024 and took effect on June 19, 2025. It sets duties for model management companies that represent models in the state, including acting in the model's interest, paying models on time, and getting clear written consent before creating or using a digital replica of a model. Brands that work with models in New York should expect agencies to ask for consent language around AI and digital replicas, and should keep that consent in writing. The New York State Department of Labor publishes the official guidance, and your own attorney can tell you how it applies to your company. We wrote a plain English overview in our post on the New York Model Workers Protection Act.

  • Our modeling contract includes a separate clause on digital replicas that both sides approve.
  • Payment terms are written into every booking, so the model knows when they get paid.
  • No fees are ever charged to models on ModelContracts.

Shooting on New York streets

Filming and still photography on public property in New York City usually needs a permit from the Mayor's Office of Media and Entertainment when you use equipment beyond a handheld camera, block a sidewalk or park vehicles. Parks, transit and private buildings have their own rules. Check the current requirements with the city before you lock a date. For logistics, most crews rely on the subway and on equipment vans with reserved parking. Put the call time, address, nearest station and holding area in the booking so models arrive on time.

Book New York talent from your panel

You post a model casting with the date, borough, hours, looks and usage. Verified adult models apply, you shortlist, and you send a booking with your own rate. You set the rate, we never suggest one. The agency fee is shown before you confirm and depends on your plan. When both sides approve the agreement, the release is stored with the booking.

  • Age and ID are verified for every model and every brand account.
  • Usage media, term and territory are spelled out per booking.
  • Overtime and cancellation terms are agreed before the shoot.

FAQ

Can I shoot with a model in the subway?

Only with approval. The MTA runs its own film and photography office, and a commercial shoot with a model and crew in stations or on trains needs its permission. Contact the MTA early, and write the approved location and time into the booking.

Does the Model Workers Protection Act apply to my brand?

The law mainly regulates model management companies, but brands deal with its effects, especially consent for digital replicas and clear payment terms. Read the official text from New York State and ask your own attorney how it applies to you.

Do I need a permit for a street shoot in NYC?

Often yes, when you use more than a handheld camera, set up gear or hold a location. The Mayor's Office of Media and Entertainment handles permits for shoots on city property. Private locations need the owner's written permission.

Can I book models for NYFW week?

Yes, as long as you plan early. Many models and crews are busy in February and September, so post your casting several weeks ahead and set clear hours and overtime in the contract.
